Work Modes
Six presets that point the AI at one stage of writing — brainstorming, research, outlining, review, proofreading, and memory.

A work mode is a preset you pick in the AI chat that points the assistant at one stage of writing and keeps it there. In review mode it gives you feedback instead of quietly rewriting your draft; in research mode it reads your sources instead of inventing facts. When you know which stage you're in, a work mode gets you a sharper result than an open-ended request.
Where to find them
In the AI chat input, open the mode picker before you send your message and choose one. Leave it unset and you get the normal, general-purpose assistant — which is the right choice plenty of the time. Switch modes whenever your task changes.
The six modes
| Mode | Reach for it when | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Brainstorm | The topic, angle, or audience isn't settled yet | Opens up directions and ideas; won't write the article for you |
| Research Sources | You want it grounded in your own materials | Reads the sources in your project and pulls out facts before suggesting what to write |
| Build Outline | You want structure, not full prose | Plans sections and a skeleton you can draft into |
| Review & Suggestions | You want honest feedback, not edits | Reads your draft and tells you what's working and what isn't — leaves the text alone |
| Proofread | You want errors caught, not a rewrite | Scans for language mistakes and inconsistencies without reshaping your writing |
| Memory Refresh | You want the AI's notes tidied up | Reviews what the AI remembers across your account, project, and article, and updates it |
A few notes
- Review and proofreading modes deliberately don't rewrite your draft — they hand back feedback so you stay in control. When you do want the AI to change the text, use the regular chat or see Letting AI Rewrite Your Draft.
- To get the AI writing from scratch, describe what you want in the regular chat or start from a topic — you don't need a mode for that.
- Memory Refresh is the hands-on way to clean up what the AI knows about you. See What the AI Remembers.
