Common Problems & Fixes
Answers organized by what you're seeing — the AI stalled, a quota wall, too few models, Tab not working, an import that failed, or a draft you can't find.

Find your problem by what you're seeing on screen, not by which feature it belongs to. Each answer points you to the page with the full story.
The AI stopped responding
Two common causes:
- You're out of star power. Every AI action spends credit; when your balance hits zero, the AI pauses. Check your balance first — see Star Power & Usage.
- The stream got interrupted (a flaky network, a long request). Use the Stop Generating control in the chat, then send your request again. See Using the AI Chat.
Your writing and everything you've saved stay untouched either way — only the AI is paused.
I hit a wall that says I'm out of star power
Star power is the credit every AI action spends. When it reaches zero, AI actions stop until your balance comes back. Your work is safe — nothing you've written is lost.
To keep going:
- Wait for your monthly reset (the date is on your star power page), or
- Upgrade your plan for a larger monthly allowance.
Full details: Star Power & Usage.
Why are there only two models to choose from?
The model picker shows Default and Prime — that's the full set. Free plans use Default; paid plans also unlock Prime. There's no hidden list to turn on. Which plan unlocks what is covered in Plans & Pricing.
Tab completion isn't responding
Run through these:
- The cursor is inside editable body text (not an empty article or a non-text block).
- You pressed
Tabwithout modifier keys (Ctrl,Shift,Alt,Command). - Your account is signed in and has available star power.
- A previous suggestion isn't still loading — let it finish or press
Escfirst, then try again.

The AI changed my text but I didn't get a review — or I can't tell what changed
When the AI rewrites existing text, the changes wait for you in a review where you accept or reject them one by one; your original isn't touched until you accept. If you didn't see a review, the AI most likely wrote new content rather than editing existing text. Open the review to step through each change and see exactly what's different.

My import failed — or it won't take my PDF
Importing into an article supports Word (.docx / .doc), plain text (.txt), and Markdown (.md) — not PDF. Convert the PDF to Word or Markdown first, or paste the text in.
If you want to keep a PDF as research instead, upload it to your materials library, where it's summarized for you. See Finding Sources & Images with AI. For all supported formats and size limits, see Quick Reference.
I can't find something I just wrote — will I lose my draft?
No. Muses autosaves every few seconds to both your device and the cloud, and keeps version snapshots you can roll back to. Look for the article under My Articles; if you need an earlier state, open the version history and restore it. Restoring never throws anything away.

Creating one article also created a project — why?
When you create an article from My Articles without picking an existing project, Muses creates a new project for it automatically, so your work has a home from the start.
How do I add more articles to the same project?
Open any article in that project, switch to the left panel Articles tab, and click new article (+). The new article lands in the same project. More on organizing: Organizing Your Work.
