Getting Started
Go from a topic to your first finished, exportable piece in a few minutes.
Last updated: June 23, 2026
This walkthrough takes you from nothing to one finished piece you can export — so you feel what Muses does before learning every feature. Plan on a few minutes.
Before you start
- Sign in with email or Google.
- Have either a topic in mind or an existing document to import.
- Document import supports Word (
.docx/.doc), plain text (.txt), and Markdown (.md). Importing a PDF directly into an article isn't supported yet.
Step 1. Create your first article
From My Articles, click New Article and pick one starting point:
- From blank — a clean editor.
- From a topic — describe what you want to write about and let the AI open with a head start.
- From an import — turn a Word, TXT, or Markdown file into an editable article.
Creating an article here also creates a project for it by default, so your work has a home from the start. For your very first piece, start from a topic — it's the fastest way to get words on the page.
Step 2. Draft faster with AI
Use two AI paths together while you write:
- AI chat — ask it to outline the piece, expand a thin section, or rewrite a paragraph. When it rewrites existing text, you review the change and accept or reject it — your draft is never overwritten without your say. See AI Chat.
Tabcompletion — keep typing and pressTabto have the AI continue your sentence in place, without leaving the editor. See Drafting Your First Draft.
Step 3. Export your finished piece
When the draft is where you want it, open export and choose a format: Markdown, Word, TXT, or PDF. You can export just the current article, or merge a whole project into one file. Your draft stays editable, so you can come back and keep refining anytime.
That's a complete first piece — created, drafted with AI, and exported.
Where your cost and credits show up
AI actions spend star power, the credit included with your plan. If something stops responding, your balance is the first thing to check. New here? See how it works in Core Concepts & Glossary.
Common first-run issues
- The import dialog won't take my PDF. Importing a PDF into an article isn't supported yet — convert it to Word or Markdown first, or paste the text in.
- AI isn't responding. Check your star power balance; AI actions need available credit.
